Far Offshore Renewables
Recent news (March 2010) has seen Far Offshore Renewables " just finishing another sea trial and the results of the new hull design are encouraging. The roll has been minimised whilst using the original heave plate dimensions. This should lead to saving on scaling up the project. The survival of a storm in Fishguard harbour has provided confidence that the form of the floating wind turbine is adequately stable. The storm hit the structure with waves 50% in excess of the design wave load. The project of scaling up is underway with tenders having been issued to several companies local to south Wales. Following the sea trials the lessons learnt are being transferred to the larger scale device due for launch later in the year. Match funding up to £125,000 has been obtained as a result of a successful application to Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority. The priority is finalise the design and move into the construction phase."
