CCW release report on natural heritage evidence to support planning for marine renewable energy
The Countryside Council for Wales (CCW) is committed to working with regulators and developers to support the development of marine renewable energy in locations, and using technologies, that avoid significant adverse environmental impacts. This report summarises work CCW has undertaken to produce and share key synthesised evidence relating to Welsh natural heritage interests, in the form of GIS-based data layers, to be taken into account by strategic planning process for marine energy devices (wave and tidal stream). Countryside Council for Wales and RenewableUK
Thursday 26 May 2011Today the Countryside Council for Wales and RenewableUK will sign a joint statement of understanding, which will underpin their close working relationship. The signing will take place at the Renewable UK Cymru conference and will be attended by First Minister for Wales Carwyn Jones. The document formalises the way the two organisations work together to find win-win solutions for generating green energy whilst minimising impacts on Wales’ natural environment. CCW supports the Government’s commitment to reduce the UK’s CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050. To meet this target, it is vital for CCW – the Government’s independent adviser on nature conservation and landscape protection - and RenewableUK – the umbrella body for renewables companies - to have a close working relationship.Morgan Parry, CCW Chairman said: “This partnership approach is fundamentally important to ensure that the most suitable technologies are deployed in the most suitable locations, to reach renewable energy targets whilst minimising impacts on our natural heritage.
