Maritime Data

Pembrokeshire is fortunate in that historically considerable research has been carried out, particularly in relation to the energy industry through the former Oil Pollution Research Unit situated on the Waterway, Marathon Oil when they were exploring for gas in the Irish Sea and more recently the Milford Haven Waterway Environmental Surveillance Group.  The Wales Activity Mapping Project  has also mapped recreation in the area which can be viewed on a GIS website. The Marine Renewable Energy Strategic Framework for Wales provides more data while the research section has more information on the work of the all the marine energy research projects in Wales.

COWRIE (Collaborative Offshore Wind Research Into The Environment) contains authoritative information about offshore windfarm development in the UK. This includes the results of recent scientific research studies, maps showing the location of windfarms that have already been built in UK waters, information about proposed site developments and a list of links to other websites providing relevant information relating to Government Policy, the British Wind Energy Association and individual projects and developers. The COWRIE Data Management System is the source for the environmental data and information generated under The Crown Estate’s second Licensing Round for offshore renewables. COWRIE has created a data store to handle all environmental records to be submitted to The Crown Estate by offshore renewables developers under the terms of their licence agreements and the data generated within COWRIE-funded research projects.
